Zoe Lorlyne Isaacson

Zoe Lorlyne Isaacson, age 93, of St. James, died August 10, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Society, Pleasant View in St. James.

Memorial service will be held at the Good Samaritan Society, Pleasant View in St. James on September 19, 2023 at 1:00 pm. in the chapel with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James.

Zoe was born in Highland Park, MI, the only child of Lester and Zora (Hall) Dettwiler on Sept. 7, 1929. She attended Kindergarten in Detroit and in 1936 the family moved to St. James, MN where her parents were from originally. She attended School in St. James and excelled in playing the violin. She graduated in 1948, and then went to Macalester College in St. Paul for one year and further studied music. In 1950, she married Robert Newberg of St. James and after living several different places, they bought a farm north of Hector, MN, where they raised their four children, Irene, Gary, Edgar and Curtis. They were active in the First Lutheran Church of Hector for 25 years.

In 1977, they were divorced after which Zoe came back to St. James to live with her mother, Zora Dettwiler, who had been a widow since Lester passed away in 1972. In 1981, she married Kenneth Isaacson and continued living in St. James. They were partners in the home rental business for about 20 years. Zoe loved antiques and was a dealer for over 25 years. She, Ken and Zora were in many antique shows around this area. She was a charter member of the St. James Historical Society. She and Ken coordinated the annual Flea Market for the society during Railroad Days starting in 1994. She loved all types of music and played the violin, organ and piano beautifully. She and Ken took many trips to various places around the United States, Canada and Mexico and wintered for about 15 years in either Fort Meyers, FL or Mesa, AZ.

Zoe is survived by her four children, Irene Newberg-Appelget of Parkers Prairie, MN, Gary (Jayne) Newberg of Detroit Lakes, MN, Ed (Connie) Newberg of Hector, MN and Curt (Blanca) Newberg of Wilmar, MN; eight grandchildren, Garrett Bollingmo of Red Bluff, CA, Russel (Becca) Bollingmo of Eden Prairie, MN, Brian (Missy) Newberg of Detroit Lakes, MN, Brandon (Rachel) Newberg of Fridley, MN, Taylor Newberg of Hector, MN, Dustin (Yadira) Newberg of Mesa, AZ, Ross Newberg of Cosmos, MN, and Ray Newberg of Litchfield, MN; eleven great-grandchildren, Orion, Liam, Kai, Anissa, Porter, Blake, Piper, Ashton, Mikala, Reggie and Zora; and one great-great grandchild, Walker.

Zoe was preceded in death by her parents; her spouses; and two grandchildren.
