Yvonne Lorene Loomis

Yvonne L. Loomis, age 97, of Springfield, MN, died September 6, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Springfield. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 12, 2024, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the United Methodist Church in Springfield. A Memorial Service will be held at United Methodist Church in Springfield on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 11:00 am. The clergy will be Chaplain Noel Wetter. Interment will be at the Springfield City Cemetery. Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.

Yvonne Lorene Loomis was born October 7, 1926, in Mountain Lake, MN to parents Francis and Bessie Cullen, and was baptized in the Catholic Church. The Cullen family moved to Springfield, MN in 1936. She was confirmed on March 29, 1942, in the Community Methodist Church.

Yvonne graduated from Springfield Public School in 1944. She attended the U of M for a year. She returned to Springfield and assumed the role of bookkeeper in the family business, Cullen’s Garage. She studied and obtained her private pilot’s license in 1948. She married Richard Loomis on January 18, 1953, in the Methodist Church. The couple moved to Fort Riley, KS where he completed his military service. The couple returned to Springfield in 1954, and both worked at the garage. They purchased Cullen’s Garage in 1969 and changed the name to Loomis Motors. They operated the business until 1986.

Yvonne was an active member of her church circle, the Ladies Golf Association, the Hospital Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She enjoyed gardening, birdwatching, cooking, knitting, and visiting on her porch. She especially enjoyed spending time with family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Peggy Larson and Tucker (Shari) Loomis of Springfield; six grandchildren, Heather (Mike) Hille, Brandon (Alicia) Loomis, Christian (Ann Berkner) Loomis, Jeanne (Kevin) Krigbaum, Anne (Scott) Mygind, and Johnny (Missy) Larson; and 14 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and both sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. John Lutheran Home Foundation.
