Wilma A. Lindstrom

September 30, 1923 — February 9, 2016

Wilma Arlyne (Sawatzky) Lindstrom, 92, of Mt. Lake died peacefully on Feb. 9, 2016 at the Windom Area Hospital following a severe stroke. True to Wilma's strong willed nature, she sustained life until the same date that her husband Carl passed away, 29 years ago. Wilma was born on September 30, 1923 to John and Nettie Sawatzky in Mt. Lake. She was the oldest of 5 siblings, and provided a secure anchor for her brothers and sister when it was needed. She graduated second in her class from Mt. Lake High School in 1941. She married Carl Lindstrom on August 20, 1946. They enjoyed golfing, dancing, and traveling the United States with the Jaycees. She worked at the Mt. Lake creamery until their children, Carlene and Bruce were born. While raising her children, she volunteered with the Red Cross, and was very active in her church. She instilled in her family a strong appreciation for the beautiful things of the earth, especially for birds and flowers. Her family will remember her as an independent, dignified woman, who was very generous with her time and kindness to her friends and family. They will cherish the joy she found in spending time with her granddaughters and great-grandson, watching birds, following sports, reading, and her German heritage. She is survived by her daughter, Carlene Schons and her husband John of Fairmont, MN, her son, Bruce Lindstrom and his wife Sylvia of Seattle, WA, her two Granddaughters, Megan (Mike) Heller of Sherburn, MN, and Chelsea (Jack) Schutter of Lincoln, NE, one great-grandson, Leo Heller, sister, Norma Hyma of Palm Desert, CA, brothers, Bob Sawatzky (Marilyn) of Park Rapids, MN, and Jack Sawatzky of Two Inlets, MN, and several nieces and nephews. Also left to remember her are many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Nettie, her husband, Carl, one brother, Harold Sawatzky, one brother in law and three sisters in law.
