Willis John Linscheid was born to Herbert and Sadie (Rupp) Linscheid in Butterfield on August 30, 1926. He graduated from the Butterfield High School and continued his education at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, Bethel College in North Newton, KS, and Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Chicago, IL. While in college he was an active member of the choirs of both St. Olaf and Bethel. Willis was baptized upon confession of his Faith and a lifelong member of the Community Bible Church of Butterfield (formerly Mennonite Church of Butterfield). Willis worked briefly at Butterfield Produce before becoming the bookkeeper for Butterfield Oil. He also provided lawn and yard care for many area residents. He enjoyed detailed collecting of stamps and butterflies, and Willis donated many of his rare and special butterflies to the Minnesota Science Museum. Willis also cared for his mother in their home for many years. Willis died at the Pleasant View Good Samaritan in St. James, MN on Wednesday, September 2, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Raymond Linscheid. Willis is survived by a brother, Delmar Linscheid of Butterfield; three nephews and their families, David Linscheid and Donald Linscheid and his wife Julie all of Butterfield, and Lenny Linscheid and his wife Lisa of New Ulm, MN; a niece, Brenda Menssen and her husband Elroy of Butterfield; a sister-in-law, Betty Linscheid of Heston, KS; many other relatives and friends.
