William Stern

William August Stern was born on October 30, 1917 in Northstar Township, Brown County, the son of August and Emma (Krueger) Stern. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield. Bill attended Brown County School Dist # 77 and worked on his parent's farm. On June 18, 1947 he was united in marriage to Marian McCauley in Lamberton. The couple lived in Sanborn before moving to their first farm. In 1952 they purchased a farm east of Wanda. Following their retirement they moved to rural Sanborn. William was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed to fish and to tell big fish stories, time with his family and grandchildren, time on the farm which he was actively involved until he was 88 years old. William enjoyed happy hour and later enjoyed bingo. Bill died on Saturday, April 7, 2007 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis at the age of 89 years. He is survived by his wife - Marian; children - Bill Jr. (Darlene) Stern of Apple Valley, MN, Eugene (Kathryn) Stern of Waldorf, MD, and Douglas (Peggy) Stern of Sanborn; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Joyce Stern of Shawnee, KS, Dalores Stern of Springfield and Peggy Bredvold of Springfield. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers - Edward and his 1st wife - Peggy, Ewald, Fred and his wife - Hilda, Elvin; and sisters - Augusta and her husband - Anton Matzke, Lydia and her husband - Art Dehne, and Martha and her husband - Art Tordsen
