William John Bill' Lammle was born April 21, 1914 the son of John and Christina (Spitzer) Lammle in McPherson County, South Dakota. Shortly after that, the family moved to Roscoe, SD, where he attended elementary and high school. He worked for his father who was a Ford Dealer and White Eagle Bulk plant owner. In 1937, he and his brother-in-law, Walter Bartsch, purchased the St. James Implement Co. Bill served in the Army from July 11, 1941 to October 31, 1945. He served overseas in 1944 & 1945 in North Africa and Italy with the 91st Infantry Division. In 1957, he purchased his partners share of the implement dealership and retired in 1971. He married Martha (Rempel) Melheim on July 1, 1961. The couple spent the winter months in Weslaco, Texas from 1972 to 1998. Martha passed away on September 12, 2007. Bill was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church since 1937, member of the American Legion Post 33 since 1946 and a Life Member of Ellingsburg-Zettel VFW Post 1914 where he served as Post Commander 1949-1950. Bill enjoyed wood carving, reading and gardening. William Lammle passed away on Friday, September 30, 2016 at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James surrounded by his family. He is survived by his daughter Jackie Hurley of St. James, granddaughters; Janelle Paulson of Roseville, MN, Gwen (Albert) Sampson of Hibbing, MN, grandson; Craig (Tracy) Hurley of St. James, great-grandchildren; Karl Paulson, Abbey (Karl) Engebretson and their children; Olin, Otto and Oskar. Also surviving are two sisters; Leona Pickett of Simi Valley, CA, Merilyn (Gerald) Viehaber of Rochester, MN and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Martha, parents, sisters; Lydia (Gordon) Wolner, Adeline (Walter) Bartsch, brother Armond (Avis) Lammle, brother-in-law Duard Pickett and son-in-law Loren Hurley.
