William Edward Behrends, age 92 of Lamberton, died Sunday, June 5, 2005 at Valley View Manor in Lamberton. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 9, 2005 at 10:30 am at Lamberton United Methodist Church with burial at Lamberton Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday, June 8 from 4:00-7:00 pm and Thursday, June 9 from 7:30-8:30 am at Sturm Funeral Home in Lamberton, and continues for one hour prior to services at the church. William Edward Behrends was born December 29, 1912, in Mountain Lake, MN, the son of Tonyus and Teena (Limberg) Behrends. He graduated from Mountain Lake High School and moved to the Lamberton area with his family in 1938. Bill worked at various farms around Lamberton until he was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1942. On August 1, 1944, Bill was united in marriage to Margaret Ewy at the Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake. The couple farmed near Lamberton where they raised dairy and feeder cattle, and at one time had the largest turkey farm in Minnesota. Bill was a member of the Lamberton United Methodist Church since 1946 and served as their Video Minister. He was also a member of Andrew Peterson American Legion Post #41, served as president of the ASC, was a member of the Horticulture Society of Redwood County, and took an avid interest in the Southwest Experimental Station. Bill enjoyed fishing, raising flowers, and photography. William Edward Behrends died Sunday, June 5, 2005, at Valley View Manor in Lamberton at the age of 92 years. Survivors include wife- Margaret of Lamberton; sons- Larry Behrends and special friend Laura Lynn Domeyer of Adrian, MN, and Joel Behrends of Phoenix, AZ; brother- Harvey Behrends of Anza, CA; and sisters- Fay Bergman of Riverside, CA, and Bernice and husband Bob Davidson of Cresco, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers- Fred, Louis and Les Behrends.
