Wilfred Rathman

Wilfred Rathman was born October 7, 1929, in Adrian Township, Watonwan County the son of Edwin and Amelia (Eckstein) Rathman. Wilfred would live his entire life on this farm. He was a member of the National Guard from 1951-1953 and was stationed at Camp Rucker, Alabama. Wilfred was united in marriage to Marlene Jeske on January 19, 1954, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Comfrey. Wilfred farmed until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and a former member of the Darfur Sportsmen's Club. Wilfred enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, trapping, trips to the casino, and scrapping out metal. Wilfred Rathman died Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield at the age of 82 years. He is survived by wife Marlene of Comfrey; children- Linda Berkness of Shakopee, Mark Rathman of Alexandria, Cheryl (Mike) Teicher of Sanborn, Lorie (Greg) Klinkhammer of Onalaska, WI, and Brian (Cindy) Rathman of Springfield; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers- Val (Marion) Rathman of Comfrey, Robert (Barbara) Rathman of Sleepy Eye; and sisters- Delores (Wally) Stelzer of Mankato, and Marion Frandrup of Randall, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Timothy; and sisters- Gladys Laik, and Irene Rathman.
