Wayne Olson

Wayne Olson, age 84, of St. James, died on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN. Funeral services will be 10:30am, Monday, March 19, 2012 at First Lutheran Church in St. James with Rev. Ken Bowman officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery with military honors provided by the St. James Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be Sunday from 4pm to 6pm at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James and one hour before services at the church on Monday. Wayne Everett Olson was born June 26, 1927 near Ormsby, MN, the son of John Mattie (Peterson) Olson. He grew up in Crookston and St. James where he graduated from high school. Wayne served in the Navy. When he returned home from the service he worked at the bottling company for a short time before going to work for the telephone company wher he worked until he retired in 1983. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, American Legion and the Rotary Club. Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, watching sports, socializing with family and friends and the shopping experience. He is survived by his nephews Dave Olson of St. James, Steve Cindy Olson of Shoreview, niece; Sheryl Steve Paulson of Minnetonka, grand nieces nephews; Cassandra Fohrman of Rochester, Eric Olson of Fridley, Lauren Paulson of Minnetonka, Lindsay Paulson of Minnetonka, great-grand niece nephew; Adrian Fohrman and Elizabeth Fohrman. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother; J.A. Umpy Olson and a niece Dianne Ficenko. Memorials may be directed to Ducks Unlimited.
