Wayne Holmquist

December 25, 1940 — January 5, 2011

Wayne Holmquist, age 70, of St. James, died on Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia. Wayne Dennis Holmquist was born to Ted and Erin (Gustafson) Holmquist on December 25, 1940. He attended County School District 36, and graduated from St. James High School in 1958. After graduation he enlisted in the National Guard and did his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He worked shelling corn for his cousin, Richard Carlson, for a time. He then began work for H B Construction doing earth work. He worked the later years for LaSalle Farmers Grain Co. until he became ill. He has been a resident of the Luther Memorial Home, in Madelia, since 2003. Wayne was a member of the American Legion Post 33, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in St. James. He was a past president of the Eagles and a delegate to many of their conventions. He enjoyed working at many of their functions. He proudly served with the Legion/VFW Honor Guard at many events and military funerals. Wayne is survived by his brother and sister-in-law; Donn and Charlotte Holmquist of St. James, niece; Teresa Holmquist of St. James, nephew; Craig Holmquist of Bloomington and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; Ted and Erin Holmquist, grandparents; Martin and Anna Gustafson, Olaf and Ida Holmquist, uncles and aunts.
