Warren Simon

Warren Robert 'Bob' Simon was born April 20, 1923, in North Star Township, Brown County, the son of Elmer and Nellie Mae (Goodman) Simon. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in January of 1945, and served in Korea, the Philippines, and Okinawa. Upon his honorable discharge in December of 1946, Bob returned to the Springfield area where he farmed with his father and brother. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Sandmann on September 25, 1951, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Springfield. The couple farmed in North Star Township and Bob worked at Pietrus Foods in Sleepy Eye for over 20 years. They moved into Springfield in 1978. Bob was a member of the Springfield United Methodist Church and enjoyed farming, being outdoors, and loved spending time with his grandchildren. W. 'Bob' Simon died Thursday, October 19, 2006, at the Belle Plaine Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine, MN at the age of 83 years. Survivors include son- David of Springfield; daughter- Kari and husband Paul Schmidt of Jordan; and grandchildren- Kristina Simon, Andrew Simon, Anthony Schmidt, Derrick Simon, and Samantha Schmidt. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife- Dorothy in 2003; granddaughter- Jacquelyn 'Jackie' Simon in 1999; and brother- William in 2001.
