Warren Green

April 6, 1926 — January 3, 2012

Warren Harlan Green began his life's journey on April 6, 1926, as the first born child of Kinney and Jesse (Klinger) Green, in Mt. Lake, MN. He was baptized as an infant and attended country school #27 from grade 1 thru 8 and Mountain Lake Public School from grade 9 thru 12. He graduated in 1945. He was immediately inducted into the army in June of 1945, at Fort Snelling. He served at Camp Crowder, Missouri, Camp Polk, Louisiana and Fort Dix in New Jersey. He was discharged in December of 1946, and returned home to help Dad on the farm. He worked at a variety of jobs the following years, among them were carpentry, Eischen Brothers, Sleepy Eye Cannery, brick factory, truck driving for Oberle Life Stock Company, and drove school bus for 19 years. He married Helen Anderson on August 7, 1947 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Comfrey. They attended the Christian Reformed Church, rural Mt. Lake for 1 year, then became members of the Lutheran Church/New Hope Lutheran in Comfrey for the remaining years. Helen's father died in 1949, after which Warren took over the farming until retirement in 2001. Helen passed away in 1993, after 46 years of marriage. Four children were born into this union: son, Gary; daughters, Gail, Gean, and Gwen. Son Gary passed away on February 5, 2005 at the age of 56. Warren married Ella Harder on February 14, 2000, in Bethel Mennonite Church of Mt. Lake, MN. Warren then moved to rural Mt. Lake where he lived and enjoyed retirement. He entered the Good Samaritan Village in Mt. Lake in Feb. 2007 due to his health and he remained at the Good Samaritan Village until his death. In his lifetime he served on many boards, which included Faith Lutheran Cemetery, Faith Lutheran Church, Bashaw township, Comfrey Hospital, and was a member of the Comfrey American Legion for 60+ years, where he served as adjutant for many of those years. He sold seed corn to farmers from 1941-2001. Farming was his passion and he did it with precision and gusto. Warren enjoyed going to Farm Fest and trips sponsored by Jacques Seed Corn. He enjoyed taking home movies and John Deere Machinery. He leaves behind his wife, Ella of 10 years; daughter-in-law Linda Green of New Ulm, MN; daughters Gail (Gary) Lingbeek of Comfrey, Gean (Loren) Schumacher of Comfrey, and Gwen (Kenny) Lang of Springfield, MN; 10 grandchildren; 1 step grandson; 8 great-grandchildren; step-children: Lauren, Faye, and Jane; 2 brothers: Owen (Clarlyn) Green of Windom, MN and Richard (Shirley) Green of Mt. Lake; 2 sisters: Lois (Bob) Mellema of Minnetonka, MN and Janice (Jerry) Evers of Comfrey; many nephews, nieces, cousins, neighbors, and friends. Preceding him in death was his wife, Helen; son, Gary; his parents; brothers, Donald and Laurence; nephew Paul. Visitation 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm Friday, January 6, 2012 Sturm Funeral Home, Comfrey 101 N.
