Walter Wolner

Walter Bob Harlan Wolner was born on April 13, 1929, in Minneapolis, MN to Walter and Kamma (Fisman) Wolner. Bob grew up in Minneapolis, graduating from Roosevelt High School. In high school, he enjoyed participating in football and track. He enjoyed spending his summers helping his Uncles and Grandfather Fisman on their farm near Ormsby, Mn. He attended and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BS degree in Animal Science/Husbandry. On June 4th, 1949 he met Barbara Hackett, the love of his life, "Love at first sight!" On August 26, 1950, they were united in marriage in Minneapolis, Mn. Throughout the years, the couple made their home in Minneapolis, Austin, St. James and Hutchinson, MN. Bob worked for many years as a livestock buyer for Hormel. In the late 1980's, they returned to St. James to retire amidst lifelong friends. In retirement, for many years, Bob and Barb enjoyed wintering with friends in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, cooking, baking pies, brownies and bread, doing crossword puzzles, bowling, playing couple's bridge and 'honeymoon bridge' with his wife. Bob was very active at Augustana Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council, was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir. Bob enjoyed singing with his guitar to his wife, his children, grandchildren and at several area nursing homes. Bob was a Boy Scout Leader, Troup 96, for several years and served on St. James Jaycees, a service organization. In later retirement, a highlight of his day was spending every morning with his "3 Penny Club" friends at the Hometown Caf in St. James, MN. Bob is survived by his children; Dawn (Loren) Matejka of Trimont, Lauree (Kevin) Kuehl of Trimont, Steve (Chris) Wolner of Saginaw, MN, 22 grandchildren (Dad always counted the ones that they married!) Chad Peterson (Becky), Matthew Peterson (Tonia), Kristin Hanowski (Jared), Aaron Kuehl (Lisa), Ryan Kuehl (Kelly), Daniel Kuehl (Sunny), Joshua Kuehl (Molly), Samuel Kuehl (Samantha), Tiffany Wirz (Eric), Spencer Wolner (Kristine) and Ashley Schwanangel (Nate) ; 20 great-grandchildren, his brother William (Ginger) Wolner of Marine on St. Croix, MN, brother-in-law Charles (Sharon) Hackett of Poulsbo, WA, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, Barb's parents John and Ellen Hackett, his parents Walter Kamma Wolner, his step-mother Corinne Sorheim Wolner, his sister, Lois and Lois's husband Donald Bergstrom, his paternal grandparents Anton M. and Caroline O. Wolner and maternal grandparents Bertil Louise Fisman...and many beloved cousins, aunts, uncles and in-laws. Bob Wolner, a.k.
