Walter Edward 'Butch' Schenk was born July 22, 1924, in Springfield, MN, the son of Edward and Emma (Kettner) Schenk. A lifetime resident of the Springfield area, Butch was united in marriage to Dorothy Mae Balbach on July 10, 1946, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Springfield. After working in various farm positions, he started Butch's Station in the mid-60's. Butch owned and operated the station until retiring in 1986. He was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church and enjoyed visiting, being outdoors, and spending time with friends and family. Walter 'Butch' Schenk died Sunday, October 22, 2006, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield at the age of 82 years. Survivors include daughter- Jean and husband Gary Kitzmann of Sioux City, IA; son- John and wife Dawn Schenk of St. Cloud; grandchildren- Jeffrey (Tiffney) Kitzmann of Lee's Summit, MO, Chris Kitzmann of Sydney, Australia and fiancee' Laura Simpson, and Brandy Kitzmann and fiance' Matt Rhodes of Minneapolis; great-grandchildren- Cheyenne and Trace Kitzmann of Lee's Summit; sisters- Esther Gieseke of Springfield, and Delores (Bob) Sater of St. Louis Park; brother- Armin (Clara) Schenk of Butterfield; brother-in-law- Lynn 'Bud' (Bernie) Balbach of Springfield; sister-in-law- Melvine Balbach of Kasota, MN; and 17 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife- Dorothy in 2002; sister- Erna Balbach; sister-in-law- Elaine Schenk; and brothers-in-law- Percy and Ward Balbach.
