Walter Henry Romberg, the youngest child of Frank and Wilhelmena Romberg, was born on May 4, 1923, on the home farm in Home Township, Brown County. He attended school and graduated from Sleepy Eye Public High School. In April of 1947, he married Deloris Jean Trebesch and they were blessed with a son, David Michael. David died in infancy and Deloris died in 1951. On June 26, 1954, Walter married Emily June Hauert and they were blessed with two daughters, Virginia Darlene and Beatrice Gail. Beatrice died in infancy, and Walter and Emily raised Virginia on their farm in Brown County. Walter and Emily celebrated 71 years of marriage.

Walter was a farmer all his life, raising primarily corn, soybeans, oats, and alfalfa. He took over his father's farm in 1948, and he converted it from dairy to a beef feeding operation. He semi-retired in 1986 when he no longer worked the land but still fed cattle and fully retired later in life.

Walter was very active in his church, serving on boards both locally and nationally, as treasurer of the congregation, helping with construction, repair and maintenance of the church property, and singing in the choir for 51 years. He loved reading, especially western novels and history of all kinds when he had time for it! He was an avid bowler, carrying an average in the 180s in two leagues and he served as secretary-treasurer of one league for 17 years. Walter was also a softball umpire for nearly 30 years, and he traveled with the high school football and basketball teams as their scorekeeper for almost 30 years. "Eating out" was his favorite way to unwind and he always looked forward to traveling.

Walter is survived by his beloved wife, Emily Romberg and daughter, Virginia (Mitch) Loftin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Deloris; son, David; daughter, Beatrice; and six siblings, Herbert, Helen, Willard, Marie, Edmund, and Alma.
