Walter Nommensen died on Friday, March 12, 2010 at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato. Walter John Nommensen was born in Wausau, WI, on November 25, 1933 the son of Rev. Walter O. Nommensen and Cordelia (Siegler) Nommensen. He grew up in the Wausau and Allenton areas. He graduated from high school at West Bend, WI. Wally then went to work at West Bend Aluminum before moving to the Vesta, MN, area with his family where he worked at the Vesta Creamery. On April 27, 1957 Walter was united in marriage to Mavis Hasse the couple made their home in Vesta until moving to St. James in 1966. Wally worked at the St. James Creamery, Butterfield Foods, Westins and Tony Downs before retiring in 2000. Wally enjoyed fishing and sitting on the porch watching birds. He liked listening to the radio polka music was his favorite. He was a true Green Bay Packers fan. Wally enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends; he loved spending time with his grandkids. He is survived by his wife Mavis Nommensen of St. James, sons Kevin (Brenda) Nommensen, Lorin (Patti) Nommensen and Brian Nommensen all of St. James, grandchildren Katie Nommensen and her fianc Jordon Elzenga, Miranda Nommensen, Carissa Nommensen and Austin Nommensen, brothers Ted (Genny) Nommensen of West Bend, WI, Arnold (Carol) Nommensen of Green Bay, WI, sisters-in-law Marjorie (William) Danckwart of Lake City, Janice Johnson and special friend LeRoy Carrier of Brooks. He is also survived by two aunts, Irene Nommensen and Hildegard Kolb and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
