Walter Freitag

Walter J. Mike Freitag, the son of August and Louise (Tschetter) Freitag was bon on May 26, 1929, in Mountain Lake, MN. He grew up on a farm south of Mountain Lake, where he attended country school. He loved being a farm boy, catching gophers, hunting and working hard. He married Edna Mae Menken on July 20th, 1949. To this union 4 children where born - Steven, William, Debra and Bradley. Mike served 18 months in the Army National Guard duing the Korean War. When he was discharged he went to work for George Rempel, a construction contractor. In 1961, they moved to a farm on the north edge of Mountain Lake where he also began his construction company. He retired at the age of 65. Mike had many hobbies, including gardening, woodcarving and woodworking, playing polkas on his concertina, and landscaping - building a rock garden and a brick gazebo for their home. He took pride in his brick laying. What he loved most was family picnics and potlucks. Walter Mike gave his heart to the Lord in 2000. During the last year of his life Mike enjoyed worship and fellowship at the Community Bible Church in Mountain Lake. Walter J. Mike Freitag died on Wednesday evening, April 19, 2006 at the Windom Area Hospital in Windom, MN. Mike is survived by his wife Edna Freitag of Mountain Lake; 3 children, William and his wife Kristen Freitag of St. James, MN, Debra and her husband Roy Cannon of Park Falls, WI, and Bradley and his wife Tamara Freitag of Mountain Lake; 16 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a sister, Minnie Paulson of Mountain Lake; many cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steven Michell Freitag; a granddaughter, Sadie Mae Jane Freitag; a brother, Donald Freitag; and a sister, Luetta Falk.
