Wallace 'Ole' Maurer was born February 4, 1926, in North Star Township, the son of William and Gena (Erickson) Maurer. He was united in marriage to Lucille Meisinger on June 16, 1949 at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield. The couple farmed for 40 years in North Star Township and owned and operated the Green and White Popcorn Wagon for 29 years. They retired in 1992 and moved into Springfield. Ole enjoyed auctions, bowling, dancing, playing cards, hunting, fishing and Jackpot Junction. He found a special joy in spending time with his family and grandchildren, and being outdoors at the farm. Wallace 'Ole' Maurer died Thursday, June 15, 2006, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield at the age of 80 years. Survivors include wife- Lucy; sons- John and wife Jane of Cottage Grove, Jim and wife Judy of Springfield, and Jeff and wife Karla of Mankato; grandchildren- Andy, Aric and wife Nicki, and Tim of Cottage Grove, Bill of Cedar Rapids, IA, Katie of Phoenix, AZ, and Jeanne, Michael and Anne of Mankato; brother- Dorvin and wife Bernice Maurer of Springfield; sisters- Doris Guse of Two Harbors, Shirley and husband Richard Wohlrabe of Deere River, and Janet and husband Kenneth U'Ren of Morton; and sisters-in-law- Eileen Fredin, Ardis Olson and Margaret Schunk. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters- Joan, Merle and Delores; brothers-in-law- Leo Woehrman, Ernie Guse, Stan Schunk and Ray Fredin; and father and mother-in-law- Frank and Louise Meisinger.
