Waldo Clarence Stoesz was born November 16, 1927 to Cornelius and Martha (Duerksen) Stoesz at his Butterfield home. Waldo later welcomed a younger sister, Arpa (Bob) Emmert followed by a younger brother, Orv (Ardythe) Stoesz. Waldo accepted Christ at a young age when he responded to an altar call at an evangelistic crusade. Waldo graduated from Mountain Lake High School where he met Geneva Quiring. Waldo and Geneva were married at the First Mennonite Church on August 20, 1949, and embarked on a journey of nearly seventy years of wedded bliss. After their wedding, Waldo worked faithfully for Jungas Hardware, but his dream was always to farm. In the winter of 1952, this dream became a reality when he had the opportunity to purchase a 160-acre farm on the edge of Mountain Lake from his uncle. As their farm expanded, their family also grew as they welcomed four children. Waldo and Geneva raised their family on a firm foundation of faith. Waldo exemplified a true evangelistic spirit and he sought to share the Good News with everyone he encountered. Even after retirement from the farm, Waldo stayed busy by volunteering with Care and Share, the Gideons, Heritage Village, etc... reading countless books, attending his grandchildrens events, watching the birds, and keeping his yard free from dandelions. Also known for his jokes and positive attitude, Waldo loved an audience. Waldo passionately fought to further the Kingdom of God until the end. Waldo passed away on March 15, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake. He was surrounded by family as he was ushered into the holy presence of his Savior. He is survived by his daughter, Miranda; son, Merlin (DeeAnn) and children Joshua, Jenesa, and Josiah; son, Burton (Karin) and children Annie, Elijah, Levi (Katie), and Abraham; and daughter, Bonita (Tedd) Thelen and children Logan, Marissa, and Madison.
