Virginia (Bausch) McCone was born on October 10th, 1946 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Archie and Ethel Bausch. She graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City, IA, in 1968 and taught high school English and Spanish for four years. In 1970, Virginia married Stan McCone, and together they settled on a farm near Sanborn, MN, in 1973.
Virginia cherished her roles as a devoted wife, mother, and eventually nana, raising five children. Alongside her commitment to family, she excelled as a writer, authoring two books: "Come Visit Me" and "Butterscotch Sundaes." As her children grew, she engaged with her community by speaking at women’s events and serving as a substitute teacher. Virginia also managed her husband’s sod house exhibit, which operated as a beloved bed and breakfast for two decades. Throughout her life's journey, Virginia was widely respected as a prayer warrior and a woman of deep faith. She lived by the wisdom of her favorite verse, Philippians 4:6-7: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
Virginia is survived by her children: Christy (Chad) Heckathorn of Elk Point, SD; Benton (Amy) McCone of Maple Grove, MN; Charlie (Heidi) McCone of Sanborn, MN; Steve (Thea) McCone of Sanborn, MN; and Tom (Mikaela) McCone of Pemberton, MN. She also leaves behind grandchildren Mariah, Jack, and Carter Heckathorn; Maddie (Noah) Richert, Lilly, Emmie, Julie, and Lincoln McCone; Bentley, Houston, and Hayes McCone; and Hazel, Maeve, and Chance McCone. Her great-grandchildren include Paisley and Elora Richert. Virginia is additionally survived by her brother, Russell (Anne) Bausch of Waterbury, NE. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Stan McCone, and her parents, Archie and Ethel Bausch.
