Virginia Bruggeman

There will be a parish prayer service at 7pm Tuesday at the funeral home. The family would prefer memorial gifts to Divine Providence Community Home or the Alzheimers Association. Virginia Vera Deibele was born on July 19, 1920 in Bismarck, ND the daughter of Joseph J. Vera (Strolke) Deibele. She moved with her family to New Ulm and later to Sleepy Eye. She attended St. Mary's School and graduated in 1938. After she completed her schooling Virgie worked at a local drug store and later moved to Minneapolis to work in a bullet factory. She enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in New York and Seattle. Virgie was called home early after two years of service due to her mothers illness. She married William Bruggeman on June 19, 1948 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. The couple made their home in Sleepy Eye where Virgie worked a a local dress shop until she had her family. Virgie had many hobbies, She enjoyed music, golf, watching golf on TV, knitting, crocheting, cross stitching and bowling. She was inducted into the Sleepy Eye Bowling Hall of Fame. She truly loved her grandchildren's activities, especially piano and violin recitals. Virgie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where she held several offices and also was a volunteer at the school, blood mobile and girl scout leader. Virgie's baking specialty was Seven Layer Bars, she made them 12 pans at a time, saving the balance for family or funeral lunches. Her husband preceded her in death in 2000 and she moved to Divine in October of 2004. Survivors include, son, Mark (Elia) Bruggeman of Sleepy Eye and their children, Venessa Bruggeman, Erica Rewitzer, William Bruggeman and Brianna Bruggeman, daughter, Lori (Mark) Dick of Layfayette and their children, Anthony Dick and Jenna Dick, one great granddaughter Natalie Bruggeman, brother, Linus (Marilyn) Deibele of Sleepy Eye, sister, Patricia Hurrle of Woodbury and sister-in-law, Elaine Deibele of Sleepy Eye. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, William and brother, Virgil Deibele.
