Violet Rono

Toots was born on September 30, 1915 in rural Sleepy Eye the daughter of William Hannah (Wandersee) Lange. She grew up and attended Sleepy Eye Public High School and after graduating she attended Normal Teachers Training. Toots married Sylvester Rono on November 3, 1938 in Sleepy Eye. The couple made their home in Sleepy Eye all of their life. Toots was an active member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was president of Ladies Aid many years. She was a former president and long time member of the Sleepy Eye Golf Club and won many golf trophies. She had morning coffee at Schultz's Cafe for 30 plus years. Toots was helpful to the Hispanic Community and was a 20 year volunteer at the Treasure House in New Ulm. She also loved antiques and Pretty Things. Among her other accomplishments were hosting many family gatherings, taking great pride in her yard and garden, being an avid card player, traveling twice to Europe to visit her daughter, surviving the Ewa Hurricane on Kauai, Hawaii, in Dec. 1982, and caring for her mother at home for many years. Violet Toots Rono, age 91, of Sleepy Eye, MN died on Monday, August 27, 2007 at Sleepy Eye Care Center. Survivors include, daughter Kathleen (Ralph) Skoe of Northhome, daughter-in-law, Barbara Rono of Wayzata, grandchildren, Amy (David) Olson children, Marie Peter of Minnetonka, Ann (Franois Fouquerel) Skoe children, Zachary Louise of Bemidji, Erika (Douglas Savitsky) Skoe of Chicago, Liz (Jack) Powell children, Vera Anna of Corte Madera, CA, Jon (Ronna Bond) Rono children, Elisabeth Konrad of Denver, and Katie (Jeff) Jacobs daughter Nora of Minneapolis, sisters, Arleen Seifert of Sleepy Eye and Sade Ladd of Benson, and special friend, Jocelyn Zieske Sasse of Sleepy Eye. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Sylvester in 1980, son, Ronald in 1996, brothers, Jake Bernard and sisters, Helen, Frieda Edna.
