Viola Suker

Viola Rose Suker was born on February 18, 1919 in New Ulm, MN, the daughter of Joseph and Frieda (Beyer) Sandhoefner. She married Roy Suker on July 22, 1941 in New Ulm, MN, the beginning of their 68 years together. Viola spent her childhood in New Ulm, not learning to speak English until kindergarten. She was proud to teach her children and grandchildren to count and a say a prayer in German and thoroughly enjoyed visiting relatives in Germany where she tried valiantly to converse with them. Viola was an avid reader, great cook and loved to travel. She and Roy traveled to many European countries and Caribbean Islands, but her favorite vacation was Ireland where she and Roy participated in the St. Patrick's parade in Galloway. Viola is survived by her children, Doug (Audrey) Suker of Edina; Diane (Paul Bowlby) Suker of Indianapolis, IN; Mike Suker of Sleepy Eye; three grandchildren, Joseph, Jessica and Ben Suker; great-granddaughters, Emma and Ellia; brother and sister-in-law, Delbert (Eunice) Sandhoefner of Sleepy Eye and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roy in 2010, sister, Delores Kruger and infant son.
