Vincent August Kamolz was born February 20, 1923 to August and Ida (Lehne) Kamolz in Tea, SD. Growing up his family lived in Tea, SD, and then later in Springfield and Comfrey where he attended school. Vincent was confirmed on April 18, 1937 at Salem Lutheran Church in Comfrey. He served in the Army from March of 1943 to October of 1945 in the European Theater during World War II. He was stationed in Northern France, Rhineland, Andennes and received the Purple Heart and the bronze star during the Battle of the Bulge and also was awarded a silver star after D-day on June 9, 1944. While in Europe he also translated for German prisoners of war and was also a guard at Nurenberg, Germany during the trials of German officers. After his time in the Army, Vincent worked with his father August in construction. Upon his father's retirement he continued in construction until his retirement in 1990. On April 6, 1946 Vincent was united in marriage to Audrey Schneider and they raised 3 children - Cheryl, David and Dean. After retirement Vincent continued working with wood and an art called Intarsia. Vincent enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, gardening, playing cards with friends and spending time with his family. He served on the church council, was a member of the Legion, DAV and was a volunteer fireman. Vincent was a recent resident at Our House Memory Care in Austin, MN. Vincent died on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the Owatonna Care Center in Owatonna, MN at the age of 88. Vincent is survived by his children - Cheryl and husband Larry Helgeson of Austin, David Kamolz of Comfrey and Dean Kamolz of Mt. Lake; 8 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren, sister - Agnes Schultz of Fairfax and half brother - Jerry Korstad of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Audrey in 2005; brothers - Walter Kamolz and Ted Arndt; sisters - Lydia Kamolz and Elva Elg; step-sister Donna Belle Lilla; step-mother - Esther Kamolz.
