Her father was a farmer and her mother was a rural homemaker. In 1952 Julius and Ruth purchased a farm north of St. James where they ran a small dairy farm and raised beef cattle. Vickie attended a small country school until she reached the 7th grade. She then attended her junior and senior years of school in St. James. Vickie loved to be in the barn hanging out with her dad milking the cows and doing the chores. In 1961 she met Carl Janzen from Mt. Lake. In 1962 they married and moved to Silver Bay, MN. While living in Silver Bay, she had 3 children. In 1975 she moved back to St. James. Vickie started waitressing at the A&W shortly after. She continued her serving career up until 2008 when she had her hip replaced and was no longer able to be on her feet for long hours. She spent many years at the Hickory Inn, The Hometown Cafe and The Hilltop Restaurant in Paynesville. Vickie loved taking care of her customers and everyone that surrounded her. She was definitely a giver. A giver of time, a giver of money, if she had it and you needed it, she surely would share. She was an active member of East Sveadahl Lutheran Church and enjoyed making memories with the church ladies. Her interests included family, planting flowers, and most of all enjoying coffee with friends and family. Vickie is survived by her sister, Gloria Thulien; brother, Wayne Wolle; 2 daughters, Brenda Janzen of Grand Island, NE and Kim Barnes and husband Gary of Belle Plaine, MN and one son; Jay Janzen and special friend Grace Bryant of St. James.
