Verona Goossen

September 20, 1916 — February 1, 2005

Verona Gertrude Harder, the daughter of John M. and Elizabeth (Epp) Harder was born on September 20, 1916, in Mountain Lake, MN. She graduated from the Mountain Lake High School and continued her education at the University of Minnesota. Verona was baptized upon confession of her faith at the Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake. She later joined the First Presbyterian Church in Mountain Lake, where she enjoyed serving and being an active member. On March 26, 1940, Verona was united in marriage to Harvey F. Goossen at her parents' home in Mountain Lake. They made their home in Mountain Lake where Verona raised her family and she worked and the Mountain Lake Bakery for several years before serving as Meal Site Coordinator for ten years. She enjoyed sewing, reading, baking, traveling and volunteering. She also enjoyed singing and playing the piano. Verona G. Goossen, age 88, of Mountain Lake, MN, died on Tuesday, February 1, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake. Verona is survived by two daughters, Mary Barrett of Mankato, MN, and Marcia Goossen and her husband Douglas Uhrhammer of Big Lake, MN; a son, John Goossen and his special friend Janeen Miller of Mapleton, MN; a grandson, Will Uhrhammer; four step-grandchildren, April Kirchner, Nathan Uhrhammer, Geoffrey Barrett and Anne Dearmond; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Marie (Dick) Harder; and her husband, Harvey F. Goossen on May 23, 1984.
