Vernon Pauling, age 99, of Lamberton, MN, died on November 28, 2025, at Valleyview Manor in Lamberton.
Visitation will be on Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lamberton, Minnesota. Funeral Service will be held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church at 11am on Saturday, December 6, 2025. Interment will be at Lamberton City Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Lamberton. Online Condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.
Vernon Albert Pauling, son of Albert and Alma (Tesch) Pauling was born March 4, 1926, in Truman, MN. He grew up near Lamberton with his 4 sisters and 2 brothers and attended Lamberton Public School. Vernon enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1944 and was wounded during combat in Germany. He received a Purple Heart for his military service and was honorably discharged. Vernon worked as a carpenter in the Lamberton area and met June Holland of Garvin, MN and they were married June 29, 1950. They started raising crops and livestock soon after and continued farming until his retirement in 1987. Vernon was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lamberton and served on the grain elevator board. Vernon had 73 continuous years of membership in the American Legion.
Vernon enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren's school activities - bowling, trap shooting, gardening, hunting and fishing. He was a lifelong avid reader, looked forward to the local morning coffee gatherings and followed the Minnesota sports teams. Vernon enjoyed traveling, especially the many trips to Alaska for the sightseeing, hunting and fishing adventures. His garden produced the best watermelons. Vernon had a special interest in the outdoors, nature, weather, crops and never took for granted the beauty of the world around him.
Vernon is survived by his children - Linda (Dean) Schumacher, Duane Pauling, David (Victoria) Pauling, Dale (MaeLynn) Pauling; 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; siblings Elaine Frank and Roger Pauling. Vernon was preceded in death by his wife June, parents, siblings Arline Giersdorf, Marvin Pauling, Delores Giersdorf, Dorothy Johnson and daughter-in-law Paula Pauling.
**In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Lamberton Cemetery or the Andrew Peterson American Legion Post #41.
