There will be a Parish Prayer service on Thursday at 7:00 PM at the Sturm Funeral Home in Lamberton. Vernard 'Vernie' Leo Schroepfer was born January 5, 1930, in Albin Township, Brown County, the son of Edmund, Sr. and Loretta (Seidl) Schroepfer. He attended country school until 8th grade. He was drafted into the war in 1952. Vernie spent 2 years in the Korean War until his military discharge in 1954. He was united in marriage to Marian C. Kral on September 13, 1955, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. The couple farmed and milked cows near Olivia before moving to a farm near Wabasso where they continued to farm and milk cows. They moved to their current residence near Lamberton in 1975 where Vernie farmed and raised livestock until health issues forced him to retire in 1990. Vernie moved to St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield in April of 2002, where he resided until his death. He was a member of St. Mathias Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Aid Association, and Wanda American Legion Post #385. Vernie enjoyed farming, bowling, playing cards, and looking at the crops. He also enjoyed speaking German, Old time music and dancing, and especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Vernard 'Vernie' Schroepfer died Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at St. John Lutheran Home at the age of 79 years. He is survived by wife Marian of 53 years; children, Leon (Jolene) Schroepfer of Ghent, Michael (Robyn) Schroepfer of Lamberton, Glen (Diane) Schroepfer of Wabasso, Patrick (Marlene) Schroepfer of Lamberton, Janell (Steve) Frank of Wanda, and Kristine (Mark) Fischer of Redwood Falls; 26 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; sisters, Elaine (Harlan) Wilfahrt of Searles and Lillian (Alfred, Jr.) Aschenbrenner of New Ulm; brother Edmund, Jr. 'Buddy' Schroepfer of Sleepy Eye; sisters-in-law, Gladys Lang of Springfield, Doris Schroepfer of New Ulm, Dolores Sellner of New Ulm, Angeline (Linus) Krzmarzick of Sleepy Eye, and Dorothy (Anthony) Krzmarzick of Sleepy Eye, Rosemary Kral of Sleepy Eye; and brother-in-law Jerome (Dolores) Kral of Sleepy Eye. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Melvin Schroepfer; sister-in-law Loretta Schroepfer; and brothers-in-law, Leonard Kral, Eugene Lang, Gervis Sellner, and Albert Schroepfer.
