Verna Sturm

Verna Ann Sturm was born in Sigel Township, Brown County on the family century farm on July 20, 1926, to Clement and Emma (Kral) Braulick. She attended country school district #45 and St. Mary's Catholic Schools. Verna worked at home with her parents until she married Eugene Sturm on June 11, 1951, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The couple farmed on Verna's family farm southeast of Sleepy Eye. Eugene was killed in 1972. Verna stayed on the farm until 1981 when she moved to Sleepy Eye. She worked at AUI in Sleepy Eye from 1973 until retirement. Verna enjoyed gardening, fishing, the outdoors, watching television, and reading. She was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Verna Sturm died Monday, October 17, 2011, at the Glenwood Retirement Village at the age of 85 years. She is survived by daughters- Barbara (David) Guhlke of Anaconda, MT, Mary (Gary) Krueger of Glenwood, MN, and Monica (Michael) Wistrand of Chanhassen, MN; grandchildren- Amanda Guhlke, Brandy Guhlke, Rebecca (Tony) Miller, Patrick Krueger, Jessica (Tom) Capobres, and Katelyn Wistrand; and great-grandson Parker Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Eugene; grandson Lee in infancy; brother Melvin Braulick and his wife Leona; and sister Alice Helget and her husband Edwin.
