Verna Stoesz

Verna Stoesz, 94, of Mountain Lake, died on June 16, 2026, at Windom Health in Windom, Minnesota.

A funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake with visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. Interment will take place at Mountain Lake City Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Mountain Lake. Online Condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.

Verna was born on June 5, 1932, to David and Katherine (Friesen) Schmidt in Mountain Lake. She graduated from Mountain Lake High School in 1951. On September 21, 1951, she married Joel Stoesz in Mountain Lake. Together, they raised three children.

Verna drove school bus for Mountain Lake Public School for many years. She volunteered with Campfire Girls and at the Swan Lake Christian Camp. She and Joel were also state park campground hosts for many years.

Verna is survived by her children, Roger Stoesz (Deborah), Donavon Stoesz (Bonnie); son-in-law, Tim Larson (Ann); 5 grandchildren, Kristina Schleisman (Joe), Christopher Larson (Laura), Joel Stoesz (Caitlin), Katie Brown (Jon), and Jacob Stoesz (Hannah); and 15 great grandchildren.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joel; daughter, Barbara Larson; brothers, Abe (Mabel) Schmidt and Earl (Vesta) Schmidt.
