Verna Oeltjenbruns

Verna Eleanor Johnson, the daughter of Otto and Jennie (Loof) Johnson was born on April 5, 1926 in Mountain Lake, MN. She received her education at Cottonwood County country school #67. At the age of 19 Verna was at Sister Kenny Institute for treatment of polio. On January 10, 1952, Verna was united in marriage to Raymond R. Oeltjenbruns at the Christian Reformed Church north of Mountain Lake. On May 25, 1952, Verna was baptized and confirmed in her Christian faith and became a member of theTrinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake. They farmed west of Mountain Lake for 13 years before moving in to Mountain Lake. She worked at the telephone office and for 23 years in the laundry department at the Good Samaritan Village. Verna was a member of the Ladies Aid at her church, was a terrific cook and baker, enjoyed gardening, did beautiful embroidery, and was the best mother. Verna died on Friday afternoon, September 29, 2006, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Verna is survived by her husband Raymond Oeltjenbruns of Mountain Lake; four daughters, Lois Anderson of Mountain Lake, Norma and her husband Peter Heinrichs of Sioux Falls, SD, Marlene and her husband Duane Schroeder of New Ulm, MN, and Donna Oeltjenbruns of New Ulm; six grandchildren, Niall, Evan, Elisabeth, Christina, Ciarra and Courteny; a great granddaughter, Jessica Anderson; three sisters, Ella Olson, Grace Peters and Irene Loewen all of Mountain Lake; four sisters-in-law, Verna Johnson and MaryJohnson of Mountain Lake, Caroline Johnson of Windom, MN, and Gladys Dick of Huron, SD; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, John, Harm, Lawrence, Leland, Elmer and one brother in infancy; and two sisters, Gertrude Harder and Mabel Johnson in infancy.
