Verna Elizabeth Herr Feil was born in Stark Township on August 10, 1910, the daughter of Henry and Minnie (Wellmann) Herr. She attended grade school in District 12 in Leavenworth and graduated from Sleepy Eye High School. Verna married Godfrey (Shorty) Feil on September 20, 1932. The couple lived in Mountain Lake for a year then moved to a farm in Leavenworth Township, farming there until 1937. They moved to their farm in Burnstown Township near Springfield. Shorty died on August 3, 1959. Verna continued living on the farm until March of 1980 when she moved to Sleepy Eye. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield and of the A.L.C.W. Verna became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye, Brown County Welfare Board, Brown County Extension for more then 50 years. She was also a member of the Hospital Auxiliary of Springfield and Sleepy Eye, an Auxiliary member of St. John Lutheran Home, a member of the Senior Citizens Club of Sleepy Eye, and was active in many community projects while living in the Springfield area. Verna enjoyed spending time with her brother and sister-in-law at their lake home at Lake Koronis near Paynesville, MN. Verna died on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the Sleepy Eye Medical Center at the age of 98 years. She is survived by her niece Judy Kay Thompson and two great nephews - Ty and Trent; a brother-in-law - Jake Feil of Mt. Lake; sisters-in-law - Luella Wellner of AZ and Lorraine Jazen of AR; and many cousins, nephews, and nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; an infant sister - Viola, a brother - Ralph; brothers-in-law - Kenneth Jazen and Pete Wellner; and sisters-in-law - Glenedeen Herr, Freda Babb, Ethel Feil, and Rosella and her husband - Louie Wellner.
