Verna Davis

Verna Davis, age 91, of Sleepy Eye, MN, died on Thursday, October 2, 2008, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye. Verna was born November 8, 1916, to Walter and Mate (Raverty) Schumann in Sleepy Eye. She was united in marriage to Ossie Davis on August 26, 1935, in Spirit Lake, IA. They made their home in Sleepy Eye. Verna worked for Pietrus Foods and the Sleepy Eye Hospital for many years. After her retirement, Verna enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Verna will be especially remembered for her love of baking, cooking, and gardening. She will live on in our hearts forever. Verna is survived by her son and daughter in-law, Patrick and Corie Davis of Sleepy Eye; son in-law Stanton Gilland of Redwood Falls; grandchildren, Shelly (Steve) Bauer of North Mankato, Andrea (Lance) Aukrust of New Ulm, Stephanie (Leon) Schueler of New Ulm, Tricia (Kasey) Wieland of Shakopee, Pam (Jim) McMullen of Sleepy Eye, Chris Gilland of Marshall, Craig (Bonnie) Gilland of Redwood Falls, Chad Gilland of Grainte Falls; great-grandchildren Patrick Bauer, Tyler and Alexandra Aukrust, Lauren and Ethan Schueler, Lillian Wieland, Melissa, Charlotte, Samantha, Nathan, Miranda and Madlyn McMullen; step-great-grandchildren David and Jenny Ross; great-great grandson Bryer Lang; sister, LaVonne (Carlyle "Loggy") Roberts of Sleepy Eye; sister in-law, June Schumann of Anoka, and many nieces and nephews. Verna was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, Ossie in 1982, daughter, Kay Gilland in 1984, daughter in infancy; great-granddaughter, Amanda McMullen in infancy; brothers, Edward "Mutt", Warren "Bud", James, Leo Schumann; sisters, Marie Adams, and Donna and Maxine in infancy; sisters-in-law, Margie, Joan, and Christina Schumann; brother-in-law, John "Jack" Adams; and nephew, Mike Wersal.
