Verena Bruckbauer

January 22, 1916 — June 6, 2008

There will be a Parish prayer service at 5:30pm and a Christian Mothers Rosary at 7pm, both Wednesday at the funeral home. Verena H. Renie Bruckbauer was born on January 22, 1916, the daughter of Herman Gertrude Mary (Joanning) Lammers near Lismore, MN. She attended parochial school in Lismore and Polo, SD and later attended school in Orient, SD where she graduated. Renie then attended Rasmussen Business College and after graduation she moved to Sleepy Eye and worked as a cook at Rob Hansen's cafe. She married Cornelius Madory on February 13, 1942 in Redwood Falls. When Cornelius returned from World War II as a paraplegic, Renie was his constant companion and caregiver until his death in 1963. She was then employed at the Orchid Inn and started the Sunday Smorgasbord. Renie married Wendelin Bruckbauer on January 22, 1966 in Sleepy Eye. She worked with her husband at the Bruckbauer Jewelry Store in Sleepy Eye for many years. She continued to run the store after Bruckie preceded her in death in 1977. She retired in 1985. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, CCW, VFW Auxiliary, Legion Auxiliary and the Women's Club. Renie was very active in the community serving on several committees for the chamber and was an important part of the Miss Sleepy Eye Contest for many years. She enjoyed cooking, embroidery and especially spending time with her family. Verena H. "Renie" Bruckbauer, age 92 of Sleepy Eye, died Friday, June 6th, 2008, at the Sleepy Eye Medical Center. Survivors include, step-children, Beverly Simonsen of Sleepy Eye, Robert (Jeanette) Bruckbauer of Remer, MN, step-son-in-law, Donald Simonsen, step-son, Fred Bruckbauer, 10 step-grandchildren, 27 step-great-grandchildren, step daughter-in-law, Kathy Bruckbauer of Naples, FL, sisters, Esther Henle of New Ulm, Elinor Moon of Baltic, SD, Irene Schulz of Sleepy Eye, Colette Powers of Montevideo, brother, Dr. Ray (Delores) Lammers of Morris and sister-in-law, Marge Lammers of Mountian View, WY. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Cornelius and Wendelin, sisters, Colleen Fleck, Marion Selvog and Lorraine Lammers and brothers, Henry and Clarence.
