Vance Watkins

Vance was born October 26, 1927, in Spencer, Iowa, to Roy and May Watkins. The family moved to St. James when Vance was three years old. Vance enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea, was discharged and called back into military service for another year, and ended his military service as a Corporal. On September 1, 1952, Vance married Lois Rubel. They raised their family on the farm before moving to town in 2000. Vance was a life-time member of the Knights of Columbus, V.F.W. and the American Legion. Known for his good disposition and wit, Vance will be especially missed by his wife of 61 years, Lois, sons Vance, Jr. (Christine) of Colorado Springs, CO, Mike (Nancy) of Walla Walla, WA, Matt, (Karen) of Elk River, MN and daughter Nanette (Roger) of Northfield, MN. Other survivors include sisters Jennie Lorenz, Zeli Lorenz and Laura Lorenz all of Trimont, sister-in-law Viola Watkins of Darfur and many nieces and nephews.
