Uthen Luangaphay was born on May 16, 1951 in Vientaine, Laos to Mr. Binh Ma Van and Mrs. Mui Thi Quang. He served in the Laotian Military Police from 1970-75 when the Communist regime arrested him. In 1979, he escaped from prison into Thailand and from there, came to the U.S. in 1980. In July of 1984, Uthen married Von Quang in Storm Lake, IA. Uthen earned his G.E.D. and studied at the Technical College in Boston, MA to get his welding certification. For many years he lived in Massachusetts where he did welding for manufacturers. Uthen came to Mountain Lake in 1993. In addition to welding, he was a Jack-of-All-Trades, including carpentry and electrical work. In 2012 he was forced to retire due to his health. Uthen enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He especially loved to play guitar. Uthen is survived by his wife, Von, daughter, Julie (Aaron) Moscho, TX, son, Jason Luangaphay, Mankato, and sister, Anna Leuang, France. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.
