Trygve T. (Trig) Helleloid, a long-time resident of Springfield, died on Monday, May 16, 2011 at the age of 100 years. He had been a resident of St. John Nursing Home since 2006. He was blessed with good care during his residency at St. John. Trig was born April 10, 1911, in Halstad, Minnesota; his parents were Torkel (Tom) and Laura Helleloid. After finishing high school at an early age, he moved to Minneapolis and attended the Minneapolis Business College. He then entered the flour and feed milling business, and worked in Minneapolis, MN, Aberdeen, SD, and Appleton, MN. He moved to Springfield around 1940 and became the general manager of Springfield Milling Company. He held that position until his retirement in 1976. Trig was devoted to his family, work, church, and community. He was a caring and generous husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle. Trig married Doris May McCracken on July 16, 1946. They had three children: Richard, Laura, and Louise. As an employee and manager, Trig was known for his work ethic, fairness, integrity, financial insight, common sense, and respect for other employees. Springfield Milling Company was a stable and profitable enterprise through the years of his management. Trig was a long-time member of the Springfield United Methodist Church. He served as treasurer, and in many other positions of responsibility for the church. As a community citizen and contributor, Trig participated in numerous organizations and programs. He was a founding member and early president of the Springfield Golf Club. He was a founding member and past president of the Springfield Rotary Club. He was long active in regional Boy Scout programs. He was an active member of the local Masonic Lodge. He was treasurer of the Springfield Library Board for many years; during that period, the current library was constructed and served as a Traverse des Sioux Library System Trustee. Although a hard worker, motivated by early hardships, Trig enjoyed many friends and leisure activities. He was a golfer, bowler, reader, and excellent bridge player. He liked people and loved to visit. Trig is survived by his wife, Doris; his three children - Richard and his wife, Ingrid Ulstad and their two children - Geir and Sirianna; Laura and her husband, Michael Morris and their three children - Paul and wife Carly Dirlam, Mark, and Mary; Louise and her husband, G. Barry Anderson and their three children - Grant, Nolan, and Reid; and special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his three siblings Signe, Sondof, and Frithjof and a nephew.
