Theodore Darkow

Theodore Walter Darkow was born on Ocotober 14, 1920 in Bowden, North Dakota, the son of Otto and Effie (Allen) Darkow. As a young child, he moved to Wanda, MN. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and was stationed at Fort Lewis in Washington and was honorably discharged in 1943. Ted met Gladys Schultz in Bellingham, WA and they were married on November 15, 1943 at First English Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls, MN. The couple lived at Sanborn, MN where Ted worked for the Pecholt Hatchery. In 1948 they moved to Lamberton where Ted began his 52 year career as a furnace serviceman and plumber at Lamberton Heating and Plumbing. Ted was involved with the Lamberton Fire Department, Lamberton Ambulance, serviced as a Police Officer and a Justice of the Peace, was a member of the Lamberton American Legion and was an active member at Zion Lutheran Church in Sanborn where he held various positions and was a Sunday School Teacher. Ted died on Monday, April 2, 2012 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Springfield, MN at the age of 91 years. He is survived by his wife of 68 years - Gladys Darkow; children - Bonnie (Harold) Nielsen, Robert (Pat) Darkow, Gwen (Craig) Batalden, Steve (Julie) Darkow, Barbara (John) Jansen, James (Linda) Darkow, Daniel Darkow, and Debra (John) Gode; 28 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; a sister - Betty Hagert; and a special cousin - Rosemary Bloedow and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers - John, Albert, Ferdinand, Herman, Paul, Arnold, and August; sisters - Mable, Janette, and Lorraine; a grandson - Trevor Darkow and a granddaughter - Kathleen Batalden.
