Sylvester N. Vesty Turbes was born on June 7, 1918 to Hubert and Mary (Grasuam) Turbes in Brookville Township, Redwood County. He married Myrtle Olson on January 16, 1946 in Sleepy Eye. They resided in Springfield for 10 years where he was a partner in Conley's Clothing Store. They returned to Sleepy Eye where he owned Turbes Clothing for 30 years and retired in 1983. Vesty enjoyed golfing, bowling, and baseball serving as pitcher for the Sleepy Eye team. After retirement, Vesty enjoyed traveling, watching the Twins Viking, helping on the farm, and especially spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the American Legion, having served in WWII. He was also Sleepy Eye Retail Association President and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. Vesty died on Sunday, June 5, 2005 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center at the age of 86 years. He is survived by his two sons - Stanley Turbes and Karen Turbes of Hanska and their children - Chris and Matt Turbes, and Shawna and her husband Jeff Sellner and great grandchildren - Lexus Stimpert and Jade Sellner; and Larry Turbes and wife Jean Elton Turbes of Duluth and their children - Joshua and Jennifer Elton Turbes; a brother - Jim and wife Cyrilla Turbes of Springfield; sisters-in-law - Doris and Mary Turbes and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife of 59 years - Myrtle Olson Turbes; a sister - Loritta Wenisch; and brothers - Edward, Florian, Matthew, Victor, George, Leo, and Raymond.
