Susie H. Penner, the daughter of David G. and Elizabeth (Duick) Penner was born on February 24, 1907, in Watonwan County, MN. She received her education at a country school near her home, Mountain Lake Public School and the German Bible School in Mountain Lake. Susie was baptized upon confession of her faith on June 9, 1924, and received as a member of the First Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake, where she remained a life long member. On July 24, 1924, Susie was united in marriage to Henry H. Janzen atthe First Mennonite Church. After living for a short time on a farm northeast of Butterfield, MN, they made their home in Mountain Lake, where she raised their family. Henry died on October 4, 1962. Susie enjoyed baking, quilting and crocheting, being in the Harmonica Band, gardening, and Saturday morning coffee with her family. She entered the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake on December 6, 2002, and this is where she died on Thursday, July 29, 2005, at the age of 98 years, five months and fivedays. Susie is survived by five sons, David Janzen of Mountain Lake, Ben and his wife Vesta Janzen of Silver Bay, MN, Ted and his wife Marge Janzen of Mountain Lake, Carl Janzen and his friend Theresa Wollschlager of St. James, MN, and Daniel and his wife Margaret Janzen of Mountain Lake; 12 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 20 great great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandson, Jimmy Janzen; a daughter-in-law, Wendelyn Janzen;four sisters, Anna Penner, Elisabeth Penner, Anna Ratzlaff and Aganetha Adrian; and three brothers, Gerhard Penner, Bernhard Penner and David Penner.
