Susan Franz, the daughter of Henry H. and Elizabeth (Siemens Kroeker) Franz was born on September 30, 1914 near Joplin, MT. She received her education at Cottonwood County Country School Distrct #16 in Delft, MN, and the German Bible School in Mountain Lake. On May 15, 1932, Susan was baptized upon her confesson of faith in Jesus Christ at the Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake. On September 4, 1936, Susan was united in marriage to Jacob W. Nickel at the Immanuel Mennonite Church in Delft. They made their home in Mountian Lake where she cared for their home and was bookkeeper for her husband's busnesses, the Mountain Lake Dray Line, road graveling, Nickel's WaterCare Service and the Mountain Lake Booknook and Furniture Mart. Susan and Jacob enjoyed traveling the United States, visiting every state except Hawaii, and to many parts of Europe, reading, working puzzles and entertaining family and friends. Jacob died on December 18, 1997. Susan was devoted to Bible reading and prayer. She was faithfully involved in activities at the Lakeview Gospel Church in Mountain Lake as a Sunday School teacher and in the Women's Mission Society. Her family will remember her excellent meals which were always a highlight of going home to Grandma, and her quiet way she won their hearts. Susan Nickel, age 92, died on Sunday, April 15, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake, MN. Susan is survived by two children; Dianne Fait of Cincinnati, OH, and Rodney Nickel and his wife Mary Alice of Windom, MN; ten grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; a sister, Minnie Goertzen of Mountain Lake; a sister-in-law, Amanda Franz of Federal Way, WA; other in-laws, Sara Nickel of Mountain Lake, David W. Nickel of Windom and John W. Nickel and his wife Edna of Mountain Lake; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jacob W. Nickel; seven sisters, Marie Franz, Anna Rupp, Kathryn Dick, Elizabeth Goertzen, Marie Klaassen, Justina Loewen and Sarah Friesen; and seven brothers, Henry Franz, Sam Franz, Peter Franz, George Franz, Theodore Franz, Jacob Kroeker and John Kroeker.
