Burial will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery - Redwood Falls. Mass will be livestreamed at Steven Renner Funeral Mass. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield. Online Condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.
Steven A. Renner was born on September 14, 1948, in Springfield, MN, to Arnold Frederick Renner and Coletha Rose (Geschwind) Renner. During his youth in Springfield, Steve was a member of student council, an all-state football player, vocal soloist, choral ensemble singer, as well as an accomplished baritone player. After graduating Springfield High School in 1966, Steve enrolled at Mankato State University to study music.
Steve married Marie Grandzol on November 22, 1971. He enlisted in the Air Force in early 1971 and served at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska as security personnel and at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington DC as a pathology technician. After the Air Force, Steve and Marie relocated to Philadelphia, PA in 1975 to be near Marie’s family, where Steve worked in electroplating and was a supportive and loving father. He was an involved father - coaching youth sports, serving as a scout leader, and was supportive of all his children’s activities. Steve and Marie moved to Missoula, MT in 1995 and adventured there until returning to his roots in Springfield in 2016.
Steve enjoyed camping, hiking, and fishing with his cousins, brothers-in-law, son, and nephews in Pennsylvania, Montana, Idaho, and Minnesota. After retiring, he worked part time at ACE Hardware in Sleepy Eye and at St. Raphael’s in Springfield. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, coin collecting, watching the Vikings never win a Superbowl in his lifetime, playing pinochle and canasta with family and friends, and visiting his children in Oregon and New Hampshire to support his grandchildren in all their activities.
Steve was always willing to help family, friends, neighbors, and strangers out of the goodness of his heart and generosity of spirit, never expecting anything in return (well, maybe some candy or cookies). He always had a twinkle in his eye with a joke or laugh not too far away. He was a genuinely good man.
Those left to treasure his memory – wife Marie; son Steven C. Renner and daughter-in-law Tuesday M. Renner of Alton, NH and daughter Heidi Renner of Salem, OR; grandchildren - Benjamin C. Ebel, Lara A. Renner, Mackenzie P. Renner, Logan R, Ebel; sister Kathleen Lois Renner of Rohnert Park, CA; brother-in-law John R.
