Stanley Leo Turbes

October 2, 1947 — February 8, 2018

Stan Turbes, age 70, of Nevis formerly of Hanska passed away peacefully on February 8th, 2018 at Sleepy Eye Medical Center, surrounded by his loved ones. Stanley Leo Turbes was born on October 2nd, 1947 in Sleepy Eye, MN; the son of Sylvester & Myrtle (Olson) Turbes. Stan graduated high school at Sleepy Eye Public School in 1966. He began his college coursework at Willmar Vo-Tech to study Agriculture in the fall of 1966. In August 1967 Stan was drafted into the U.S. Army and soon thereafter Stan left to war in Vietnam. He spent one year in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in August 1969. It was at this time in 1969 that Stan and his wife Karen relocated to the Sleepy Eye area where he began working on the Harold Bartz family farm where he and Karen also lived. While working on the Bartzs farm Stan was determined to continue his Agricultural technical training/coursework at Mankato Vo-Tech; which he successfully completed when he graduated in 1970. Stan continued to work on the Bartz farm until moving to the family farm south of Sleepy Eye in February 1973 where he established the 5th generation of the Turbes Family to both reside and operate the family farm. Stan has always been a genuinely focused farmer through his love of farming, his persistence, dedication and hard work ethic he created a farm that thrived. After vacationing around the Park Rapids lake region with his family for years, he enjoyed the area so much, that he decided to pursue a career in the late 90s in real estate, in northern Minnesota. Stan became a successful realtor in the Park Rapids area and lived on Potato Lake for many years until moving to Lake Belle Taine near Nevis, MN in 2014. Stan loved music, dancing, traveling, classic cars, shopping, spending time with family & friends and to create colorful works of art with his floral and landscaping designs. He found the call of the loons especially peaceful and listened for them as often as he could. Although he enjoyed his time near Park Rapids he remained devoted to the family farm; one of his favorite times of year was harvest; the combine was his "second home". Stan served on the Brown County Soil and Conservation Board for 25 years, he was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and he had been a long-time member of the Minnesota Street Rod Association Stan is survived by his children Chris (Ana) Turbes, Shawna (Jeff) Sellner & step-Son Giacomo Sicillani, brother, Larry (Jean) Turbes, as Stan would say: "my very best friend" Mary Baumann grandchildren Samantha (Lucas), Jacob (Marcedes), Emma, Ava, Lexus (Danny), Jade & Joshua great-grandchild Bentley and close family friend Todd (Sarah) Rossing. Stan is preceded in death by his son Matthew Turbes & parents Sylvester & Myrtle Turbes For his Grandchildren: Since the day he became a Grandfather he had taken great strides to play an active role in his Grandchildrens lives; he made the children laugh and near the end of his days, he made them cry. There was always an "all-encompassing love" in Grandpas hands and arms. Love is infinite.
