Stanley Hagen, age 98, of St. James passed away on Monday, December 4, 2017 at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Society in St. James. On July 13, 1919, in Godahl, Minnesota, Stanley Gordon Hagen was born the oldest of two children to Thomas and Emma Hagen. He married Arlene Hudson and over the next 71 years they were blessed with two children: Steve (Chris) and Mark (Fritzie), five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Stanley was raised on his family farm where he learned the trade from his parents. Stanley attended the Godahl country school where he met his beloved Arlene. During WWII, Stanley enlisted in the service. When Stanley returned from the war, he married Arlene on November 30, 1946. Stanley and Arlene made their home on the Hudson farm where they farmed and raised their family for 60+ years. Stanley loved to keep busy. He always would be out in his shop at the farm or in his garage in town working on something. He was a man who liked to be on the move rather than be stationary which is why he kept so young for so long. He loved tractors and farming, caring for his animals on the farm, driving truck and school bus, bailing hay with his sons and grandkids, driving truck out West with his son Mark, and watching Bandwagon and C-SPAN. Stanley was a great man. Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Stanley would say that he is a wonderful, kind, and genuine man. He was the epitome of a family man, taking every chance he got to spend time with his wife, children, grandchildren, in-laws, and nieces and nephews. Stanley is survived by his loving wife Arlene; sons Steve (Chris) and Mark; five grandchildren Jessica (Shawn), Cara (Jeffrey), Ian (Lonna), Adam (Paige) and Luke (Chrissy); sister Evelyn Johnson; nine great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces, sisters-in-law Donna Schmidt, Marilyn Hudson and Leila Anderson. He is preceded in death by his father Thomas Hagen and mother Emma Hagen; brothers-in-law Vernon Johnson, Paul Schmidt, Russell Knudson, and Dick Hudson, sister-in-law Betty Knudson; daughter-in-law Deloris Fritzie Hagen; nephews Randy Johnson, David Schmidt; Mike Schmidt; and niece, Katherine Frisch.
