Stanley Askeland

Stanley Chris Askeland, age 65, of Saint James died on September 19, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be on Friday, September 29, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James Chapel and will continue on Saturday, September 30, 2023, from 10 am until the time of the service at First Lutheran Church in Saint James. Funeral service will be held at First Lutheran Church in St. James, on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 11:00 am. Interment will be at the LaSalle Cemetery.

Stan was born August 21, 1958, to Clifford and Elaine (Schroeder) Askeland in Madelia. He graduated from Saint James High School in 1976. He attended Granite Falls Technical College, receiving a degree in Fluid Power. On July 23, 1988, Stan married Kimberly Ladwig at Crown of Glory Lutheran Church in Chaska, Minnesota. Together, they raised 4 children.

One of Stan's dreams was to farm on the family farm, he did so for 18 years, making the farm the Askeland Century Farm. He had a passion for raising Simmental cattle and had a cow/calf operation for many years. Stan also excelled as a Regional Sales Manager for a hydraulic filtration company, Zinga, which is part of the Filtration Group.

Above all else faith, family, farming, fishing and football were important to Stan. He was a devout Christian, dedicated family man and especially loved spending time with his granddaughters, considered farming a passion, enjoyed fishing with his sons and son-in-law, and was a steadfast Minnesota Vikings fan.

Stan is survived by his wife, Kim; children, Zachary (Emma) Askeland of Lake Crystal, Kaley (Allan) Hernandez of Mankato, and Aaron (Elizabeth Hallett) Askeland of Mankato; grandchildren, Emily Claire, Elena, and Everly Hernandez; mother, Elaine; siblings, Sonja Folven, Sandra (Craig) Holthe, Susan Askeland, Sidney Askeland, and Shirley (Guy) Edwards; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Stan was preceded in death by his daughter, Emily Louise Askeland; granddaughter, Elise Hernandez; father, Clifford Askeland; and sister-in-law, Patricia Askeland.
