Stanley Amsden

Stanley Robert Amsden was born June 8, 1928, in Mountain Lake, MN, the son of Dennie and Edith (Hagerman) Amsden. He graduated from Comfrey High School and served with the U.S. Navy from 1945-49 during World War II. On October 6, 1951, Stan was united in marriage to Loretta Mae Carlson in Darfur. Stan was owner and operator of Amsden Stockyards and Amsden Surge until his retirement when he began driving bus for Richert Bus Service and delivering golf carts for RB Golf. He was very active in the Springfield Community where he served for many years on the Baseball Board, the SANTA Committee, Springfield Fire Department, Springfield Ambulance, Springfield Civil Defense, and the Springfield City Council. Stan was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Zion Church Building Committee, the Sleepy Eye VFW, and was a lifetime member of John Watson American Legion Post #257. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, grilling, and gardening. Stan especially enjoyed watching his grandkids' sporting events. Stan Amsden died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield at the age of 81 years. He is survived by wife Loretta of Springfield; children, Howard 'Smokey' Amsden of Red Wing, Dennis and wife Marie Amsden of Springfield, Bonnie and husband Paul Nordlund of Rochester, Pam and husband Paul Tauer of Springfield, and Brent and wife Stacie Amsden of Springfield; 15 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Ardyce Miller of Mora, Arlene Carter of Comfrey, and Bonnie (Marvin) Bottin of Windom. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Mervin Amsden; and daughter-in-law Patti Amsden
