Sophie Wenisch

There will be a Parish Prayer Service on Sunday at 4:30 PM at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield, MN. Sophie Geraldine Wenisch was born on June 10, 1918, in Mt. Lake, MN, the daughter of Frank and Amalia (Schwab) Grund. In 1928 she moved with her family to the Morgan area and attended school in Brookville Township. Sophie played French Horn in a band in Morgan. On September 21, 1940, she married Leonard Wenisch at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield. Leonard died in 1944. Sophie remained on the farm until 1998 when she moved into Springfield. She was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield and the Springfield Garden Club. Sophie enjoyed sewing, baking, flowers, and gardening. Sophie died on Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at Gil Mor Manor in Morgan at the age of 90 years. She is survived by her son - Leonard (Jean) Wenisch of Ft. Meyers, FL; grandchildren - Deb (Kevin) Moldestad of Farmington, Richard (Joan) Wenisch of Morgan, Randall (Diane) Wenisch of Springfield, Mark (Virginia) Wenisch of Waseca, Michelle (Allen) Fredrickson of Las Vegas, and Jeff (Joelle) Wenisch of Zimmerman; 16 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband - Leonard in 1944; a son - Richard in 1987; 5 brothers; and 4 sisters.
