Shirley Marie Mathiowetz

Shirley Marie Mathiowetz was born on February 13, 1935 on a farm north of Wabasso in Redwood County, MN the daughter of Frank and Theresa (Burtzel) Macht. She attended Country School #11 and later Wabasso High School. She married Sylvan Stelzer on December 29, 1952, he preceded her in death in 1987. Shirley worked for Pietrus Produce for 10 years and then at 3M in New Ulm for 30 years, retiring in January of 1996. She married Joseph Mathiowetz on May 7, 1988 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Her hobbies included painting, cake decorating, quilting, golfing and bowling. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Secretary for the Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Divine Providence Auxiliary, Prairie Piece Makers Quilting Guild, Redwood Area Quilters and Catholic Aid. Shirley is survived by her children, Stanley (Karen) Stelzer of North Redwood, Cheryl Easterday of Worthington, Brenda Stelzer of Clements, 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Sylvan Stelzer and Joseph Mathiowetz, brother, Rolland (Liela) Macht, sister, Delores (Leonard) Hoffmann, nephew, Eugene Hoffmann, niece, Nancy Hoffmann and 2 infants.
