Shirley Ann Groff was born on May 22, 1935, in Springfield, MN, the daughter of Rangvold and Margaret (Prom) Groff. She grew up in rural Springfield and attended country school until the 8th grade. She graduated as valedictorian from St. Anne's Catholic School in Wabasso in 1953. Shirley was united in marriage to the love of her life, Bennett Juenemann, on October 20, 1956, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Clements, MN. This union was blessed with 59 years together and 10 children.
Shirley helped on the farm, enjoyed working in her vegetable garden, and sewing countless items for her family and friends. Throughout the years, she was known to have made bridal gowns and dresses for the entire bridal party for multiple weddings that fit on the first try. Shirley also made gifts for crisis pregnancy, baptism gowns, youth clothing, church vestments and hundreds of quilts. Her expertise in sewing was benefited by family, the local community as well as internationally. If she wasn't sewing, you could find her in the kitchen baking loaves of bread, buns, cinnamon rolls and a variety of other treats. Shirley loved traveling to Branson and sharing that experience with her family and friends. In later years, she spent her time playing cards and keeping score. Shirley believed that any kind of chocolate was its own food group. Above all, her family and Catholic faith were the most important things in her life.
Left to cherish her memory are her children - Maureen (Dan) Miesen of Springfield, Michelle (Carl) Oswald of Lafayette, Celeste (Tom) Witucki of Winthrop, Vicki (John) Sellner of Sleepy Eye, Stephen (Sue) Juenemann of Sanborn, Paul Juenemann of Sanborn, Jane (Larry) Ferrian of Hutchinson, Heidi (Tim) Severson of Owatonna, Jennifer (Steven) Pollei of Hutchinson, and Stacy (Lee) Staupe of Owatonna; 20 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brothers, Sheldon (Sharon) Groff and Loren Groff; sister-in-law, Pat Juenemann; many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Bennett; parents and in-laws, John and Agatha (Hilleshiem) Juenemann; grandsons- Jacob Ferrian and baby boy Miesen; sister and brother-in-law, Angie (Tony) Kidrowski; brothers-in-law, Richard, Denis, Herbert, and baby boy Juenemann in infancy; sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Clement) Sellner, Laurene (Gilbert) Hoehn, and Bernice (Lawrence) Goblirsch.
