Shirley Cleone Husby

January 7, 1929 — June 18, 2023

Shirley Cleone Husby, age 94, of Alexandria, Minnesota and formerly of St. James, died on June 18, 2023, at Nelson Gables Assisted Living in Alexandria.


A private family interment will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery in St James at a later date. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in St. James. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.


Shirley was born January 7, 1929 to Fred and Ella (Bogen) Christopherson in Nidaros Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota. She graduated from Battle Lake High School in 1947. On June 6, 1953, she married John Husby. Together they raised 4 children. Shirley and John resided in Renville and Appleton, Minnesota before moving to St. James in 1966.


Shirley worked for Watonwan Memorial Hospital for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed shopping, traveling with John, wintering in Destin, Florida and had a keen eye for interior decorating. She especially enjoyed visits and phone calls from her grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Shirley is survived by her children, Jeffrey of Mankato, Marsha (Steve) Olson of Alexandria, Bradley (Brenda) of St. James, and Kevin of Robbinsdale; grandchildren, Brandon (Nikki) Olson, Brett (Stacy) Olson, Kyle (Kelly) Olson, John (Sandy) Husby, and Kaye (Seth) Tande; great grandchildren, Peyton, Easton, Maizy, Maddy, Mason, Riley, Hadley, Talyn, Kolten, and Brecken; and brother, Levon (Diane) Christopherson of Battle Lake.


Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John in 2007; and three brothers, Orville, Howard, and Clayton.
